I’ve been using Windows 8 for quite some time now. It was working great as long as I was using Beta version. But when I purchased and installed on my Dell OptiPlex 760, it worked even better.
Problem: Yesterday when I came to my office and turned my PC on, it stopped on the login screen and I noticed that my keyboard and mouse is not responding. I booted with a Linux USB and both keyboard and mouse started working perfectly. I found the solution of windows 8 input devices issue and it was so simple.
Cause: The problem is actually with the hibernate image. The image is sometimes corrupt and whenever we press power button, it hibernate by default so the corrupt image is never changed. All we need to avoid getting the PC hibernated once to remove that corrupt image.
Solution: Just start the PC and wait to see the login screen. When the screen is visible and after waiting some moments, just unplug the power or remove the battery from your laptop. DO NOT PRESS POWER BUTTON! You need to cut the power off before windows goes into hibernation once again. Now restart the PC and see how keyboard and mouse started working back again! Yippy!
